Heartland Theatre Company offers an exciting new class in stage management starting April 12, 2022 and coinciding with our 10-Minute Play Festival production of eight 10-Minute plays in June, including hands-on experience with the Festival (June 2-25, 2022). Grace Irvin, a veteran production stage manager in theatres in the area, teaches the course for Heartland.
The lessons will begin prior to auditions and follow through the rehearsal process into stage managing a production. Stage Managers will not only learn what stage management involves, but will also gain the hands-on experience in actual performances. Each stage manager will be assigned to a minimum of one 10-Minute play and one director.
Each lesson will be either 60 or 90 minutes in length depending upon scheduled material. Minimum number of students who may participate is 4 and maximum number is 8.
Grace Irvin teaches the class in 13 class sessions plus practical experience. Sign up with this online form by April 1. The fee is $100 to be paid at the first class April 12. The fee is non-refundable . We prefer a check, but we will accept all credit cards. Class size is limited to only 8! Student must be able to climb a short ladder up to the light booth.
Class dates are: April 12, 14, 19, 21, 28 (90 minutes) plus 10-Minute Play Auditions April 25 and 26 (7-10 pm), and continuing after Auditions May 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26 (60 minutes) through Tech Week (May 27-June 1) and Performances June 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24 and 25.
Students will gain a thorough grounding in the fundamental elements of stage management. By the end of the course, students will have learned all aspects of stage management, including working with the director and cast, and hands-on experience stage managing a real production at Heartland. About Grace Irvin, instructor:
Grace Irvin graduated from Illinois State University with a Theatre Education Degree focused in Stage Management and Directing. She has worked with many theaters in Bloomington-Normal as a Stage Manager. Grace’s most recent credits are Production Stage Manager for Heartland Theatre Company, Holiday Spectacular, Technical Director for All Together Now for Seedling Theatre, as well as teaching elementary theatre students basic skills for the stage through performance, and serving as Technical Director for Beauty and the Beast with Metcalf Theatre Department.
