Heartland Theatre Classes

Heartland Theatre Company offers an exciting new class in play writing. The class is a 5-session workshop on Wednesdays in March/April from 5:30 – 7:00 pm: March 6, 13, 20, 27 and April 3, 2024. The class instructor is Bruce Boeck, winning local and national playwright in the short play category.

The classes are designed to introduce students, age 18 and up, to the fundamentals of the playwriting process for short plays– including ideas, characters, plot, conflict, dialogue and endings. He will use existing samples of plays plus assignments for participants between class sessions. Class size is limited to only 15 participants.

Sign up below with the online registration form by February 28.  The fee is $50 to be paid at the beginning of class March 6. The fee is non-refundable. We prefer a check, but we will accept all credit cards on March 6.

The class takes place at Heartland Theatre Company*, 1110 Douglas St, Normal, IL in the Community Activity Center building.  Directions to Heartland Theatre*

About Bruce Boeck, instructor:

Bruce Boeck has written over 100 short plays since 2008, including three that were performed at Heartland Theatre’s 10-Minute Play Festival. His work has been performed across the US and Canada and his play, “Too Close For Comfort” was included in Best 5-Minute Plays.  You may have seen his plays in Heartland Theatre Company’s Young at Heartland program for senior actors. He has taught at Lincoln College and Heartland Community College.
