REGISTRATION IS CLOSED FOR “WRITING THE SHORT PLAY” CLASSES
SPRING SESSION MARCH/APRIL 2025: March 4, 11, 18, 25 & April 1
Heartland Theatre Company offers an exciting class in play writing for the second time, due to popular demand. The class is a 5-session workshop from 5:30 – 7:00 pm, March 2025. The class instructor is Bruce Boeck, winning local and national playwright in the short play category.
The classes are designed to introduce students, age 18 and up, to the fundamentals of the playwriting process for short plays– including ideas, characters, plot, conflict, dialogue and endings. He will use existing samples of plays plus assignments for participants between class sessions. Class size is limited to only 15 participants.

About Bruce Boeck, instructor:Bruce Boeck has written over 100 short plays since 2008, including three that were performed at Heartland Theatre’s 10-Minute Play Festival. His work has been performed across the US and Canada and his play, “Too Close For Comfort” was included in Best 5-Minute Plays. You may have seen his plays in Heartland Theatre Company’s Young at Heartland program for senior actors. He has taught at Lincoln College and Heartland Community College.

Heartland Theatre Company is hosting an Improv workshop consisting of eight sessions culminating in a performance. This workshop will be delivered by Wes Melton on Heartland’s stage. Delivered in a participatory format, attendees will learn basic principles of improv as well as applying principles of improv to theatrical, work, and everyday life. Attendees will be learning and practicing short form improv games with an introduction to various long forms. Class size is limited to 12. Payment of $150.00 is requested the first day of classes by check, credit card or cash.
